IPWEA Australasia President Rita Excell was recently invited to present in an American Public Works Association webinar on Automated Vehicles.

Excell, who is also the Executive Director, Australia and New Zealand Driverless Vehicle Initiative (ADVI) gave an international viewpoint on automated, autonomous, connected, driverless, and self-driving vehicles.

The webinar also discussed the potential benefits of AVs as well as concerns from the perspective of individual travellers, the private sector, and communities (i.e. the public sector). Presenters also discussed the relationship between AVs and transportation infrastructure covering roadway maintenance, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, funding infrastructure upgrades, and planning infrastructure for an AV future.
