AUS-SPEC has released the 2023 Case Studies and Technical Resources Brochure to help Councils implement AUS-SPEC for the life cycle management of their infrastructure assets.

This new issue of the brochure includes case studies on projects from Dubbo Regional Council, Northern Beaches Council, Shellharbour City Council, Shoalhaven City Council and Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC). These updated case studies will help local governments see the real-world benefits of AUS-SPEC specifications.

Dubbo Regional Council’s case study follows up on a major subdivision project that first appeared in the brochure’s 2017 edition. Northern Beaches Council customised an AUS-SPEC worksection in order to undertake their road openings and restoration work more efficiently. Similarly, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven City Councils adapted AUS-SPEC specifications for their Development and Capital Works. As part of a major local government-led procurement, SSROC used AUS-SPEC to specify recycled materials in asphalt. AUS-SPEC specifications help each Council reduce costs, streamline their processes and clarify their goals.

AUS-SPEC is an essential technical resource that has been helping Councils to design, construct and maintain their infrastructure assets for over 25 years. It is a joint venture between IPWEA and NATSPEC, a not-for-profit organisation with the objective to improve the quality and productivity of the sustainable built environment through leadership of information.

Along with the case studies, the 2023 brochure includes details of collaborations between AUS-SPEC and industry organisations, including IPWEA, as well as technical articles to further guide Councils using AUS-SPEC for contract documentation and asset delivery, management and maintenance.

AUS-SPEC specifications are annually updated to reflect current Australian Standards, Austroads guides and other regulatory requirements. New information is developed based on the evolving needs of the industry, helping Councils to learn from each other and best use AUS-SPEC specifications to manage their asset network.
