A Small Reminder of What Matters

Easter has a way of slowing things down. In the middle of busy calendars and the constant hum of work, Easter offers something increasingly rare: time. Time to be present, reconnect, and step outside the routine to remember what really matters.

Like many families, we decided to make the most of it. No big plans, just a bike ride and a walk along the GreenWay trail, recently opened by the Inner West Council. What we found was something far more meaningful than just a path.

It turned out to be an experience.

The trail weaves through the Inner West and feels both planned and natural. Safe underpasses let kids ride freely. Open spaces invite you to pause and relax. There are parks to explore, small monuments that catch your eye, and cafés right where you need a coffee or snack.

The kids loved it, and so did we.

That’s when you realise, this is the real value of local council work: creating spaces that bring people together and enrich daily life.

We often discuss infrastructure in terms of budgets and timelines. Yet days like this reveal their true value: fostering connection, creating joy, and building spaces that strengthen community.

These places don’t happen by accident.

They are the result of thoughtful planning, careful design, and the dedication of local government engineers and council teams who understand that infrastructure is not just about function. It’s about community. It’s about creating spaces where people can connect, unwind, and feel part of something bigger than themselves.

For those of us who work closely with this profession, it’s easy to forget just how powerful that contribution is.

So, this Easter, our family just wants to say a simple, heartfelt thank you.

To the Inner West Council, and to all the local government engineers and teams across our communities, thank you for the work you do. Thank you for creating the places where memories are made.

Sometimes, the most vital infrastructure brings us together, not faster.

It’s what helps us slow down.
